2014 MidAmerica Funfest
Jim A's Friday report follows: The weather was fantastic for the second day of Corvette Funfest 2014 at Mid America Motorworks, Effingham, IL. Corvette Indy folks in attendance included Mike S, Paul and Londa H, Bob and Barb Y, James B, and Jim A. Mike S was having some graphics installed on his black C5 convertible and Paul and Londa H were working in the Corporate Booth/Club Hospitality tent. Bob and Barb Y participated in the Thursday Fun Run Road Tour as well as various seminars on Friday. Jim A was taking in his first Funfest and photographing things of interest. The first thing that caught his eye was the CERV 1 vehicle pioneered by Zora Arkus Duntov in 1959/60.
The theme of this year's event was Vets with Vettes to recognize those who have served in the US military and those who are currently serving. Special parking was provided for the vets as were special T-shirts. Most notable was the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 3/5ths scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is a very somber remembrance of the young men and women who lost their lives in the controversial conflict.
The Chevrolet tent contained a few new Stingrays, including a 2015 Z06 convertible. Jeff from Chevrolet held a seminar/Q & A session. Also present were a couple of Shark Gray Stingrays. The 'Install Dome' was busy all day with everything from simple tasks such as Mike S's graphics installation to an early C4 complete interior replacement. Aslo noted was the installation of 'Lambo' doors on a C5. Corvette Nation TV hosts Bill Stevens, Maria Prekeges, and Michael Brown were on the scene filming an upcoming episode. Bill is seen regularly at Mecum auctions. All in all, it was an enjoyable day.
Alan C was there on Saturday and his pictures are also below
