Vettes for Vets 05/07
Even with the forecast turning towards a damp day 18 Corvettes still met at the Marsh parking lot for the annual trip to Lafayette to support the Indiana Veterans Home and the two Lafayette Corvette clubs that put on the event. Leaving at the 8:30 appointed time got the group there at the early registration time of 10:00, with a few dirty showers along the way. Soon, after arriving and wiping the Corvettes down, members enjoyed the hot dogs, chips & drinks that the two sponsoring clubs had ready for consumption. This helped pass the time as there had been a change in departure time to the Veterans home on a revised flyer to 12:30 instead of past year's 11:30. Everyone made it through, but most stopped cleaning their cars as a few showers continued to pass by. Once the procession stared the 117 Corvettes in attendance headed up the hill and completely around the whole facility which facilitated parking on the circle. It was a great show of vehicles enjoyed by many of the veterans who were wheeled or walked through the parking area. The show included four of the clubs cars had been parked in a special area denoting the 7 different series of Corvettes. They were Wylie & Rita's 40th Anniversary C4 Convertible, John & Marg's C4 Coupe, Frank & Cathy's C5 FRC, and Jim & Bonnie's C6 Z06 for a good cross section of club Corvettes. At the end of the of the event the Star City & Lafayette clubs presented a wreath for past veterans, which was a great tribute. They also presented club awards with Corvette Indy winning the participation plaque for most Corvettes there.
Once done about half of the group headed for Parky's in Lebanon while a portion of the rest headed to HuHot Mongolian BBQ in Lafayette and the rest headed for home. Another fun day with the Corvette Indy gang!
