Maxx's Red Letter Day
When purchased Erika's Maxx came with a set of red Corvette letters installed on both the front and back. Not long after having Maxx, some of the letters pealed off or ends broke on them. After much searching for duplicate letters, which they were finally told were not made any longer, a set of flatter front and back red letters were purchased and installed. Unfortunately these did not look as good, nor did they stay attached either, as they were installed in the fall. So over the winter another search for letters was done, and it was found that the original prism looking ones were again available. They were purchased as a Christmas present to Maxx, but this time installation was delayed until a warm day. The Friday before the 2014 Penske show qualified as warm, so Erika and Bill proceeded to remove the old letters, clean the slots with alcohol and cotton swabs. Once clean and dry Erika became the letter applier starting with the larger letters at the back. As each was installed she took a cotton swab and used it to seat each letter. The process was repeated on the front letters, with the addition of using a tooth pick in some locations. As in the past the front letters are the most fragile, and hardest to firmly lock in. With time it will be seen how this set fairs. The thought is to purchase another set of the front letters, so that individual pieces could be replaced if needed.
