Nite Before the Race 5/23/15

The Nite Before the Race was another great event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway again hosted by Penske Chevrolet and the rest of the Central Indiana Chevrolet Dealers. Between both Brett Rozzi of Penske and Mike Quinn Chevrolet District Sales Manager we were able to get the club enough tickets so that every member that wanted to go could. This has been an exceptional year for track events with no one being turned away over the three weekends. As with the other events to the track we again met at Traders Point for a police escort to Gate 9A. The group needed a little guidance from Greg in getting situated and after everyone had arrived he went through the rules of a convoy and what to do at the track. Once the three motorcycle officers were there we headed out in a fairly tight group, which must have separated a bit as a new C7 jumped in to line on 465. It later turned out that it was a newly purchased Vette from Penske and the new owners will become members. Things were smooth on the trip down Lafayette Road until an errant navigator (normally NOT listened too) said to turn RIGHT. The unnamed driver, of a ND adorned Blue Corvette with Gold Stinger Hood, did as he was told and then found himself on West Pike instead of Georgetown. He then pulled a quick U-Turn and brought followers of the caravan back to Lafayette, and rejoined the back third that had waited at the intersection. Good thing we had 3 motorcycles in our escort to keep things straight. With no further issues we got to the track, signed in and then waited until our track "parade" lap time. Once on the track most hit well over 70 and some even pushed the 100 mark, another great picture of Corvettes and Camaros circling the track on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in May. After parking along Hulman Blvd we headed to the pavilion were we got needed drinks and listened to speakers from Chevrolet including the Camaro product manager, Bowling Green Pant manager, along with Chevy Racing director and the driver of Indy Car #24, Townsend Bell, who gave some back ground on why he had picked the 24 number this year. It is because of Jeff Gordon who is retiring from NASCAR this year and doing the Indy double by driving the Pace Car in the race on Sunday. After the speakers the assembled group was treated to another great lunch. Once done many headed to the Chevrolet display to drool over the many cars there. Many then headed home before the concert group arrived and took over the track.
