Drive N Dunk & Dallara Tour
On Saturday March 9 a few of the Corvette Indy members met at McAlister's for a Drive N Dunk and then a cruise to the Dallara Indycar factory on Main Street in Speedway, where a few more members of the club met us. Several of the members woke up their Corvettes from a long winters nap to make the day's outing. Those at the 96th street McAlister's stop with their Corvettes were hosts Jim & Bonnie S, Bill L, with rider Jim N, new members Kory & Andrea F, and Bob H, while Jack H (whose Vettes battery had died) , Sarah Lee, and Greg & Donna B (who didn't go to the factory) drove their metal cars.
Some other Corvette owners including Rich Peters, Steve Blunk and Alan Arthur of Circle City CC joined in with our group's table and the trip to the factory.
After a breakfast and the usual table discussions among the group we headed to Speedway via I465 and Crawfordsville Road to Main Street . Once there we were at the end of a long line to enter the factory and spotted Mike & Linda T in another line to take a ride in the two seat, street legal, Dallara Indycar. When the time came for the main group get their ticket's the tours were being scheduled for after 4 and it was decided to just buy an entrance to the main area and save the tour for a more convenient time. Once inside we met up with John & Diana A, who had also gotten to the factory early as they live very close by. John also took the Dallara two seat ride as the two pictures below show him in the required fire suit and in the care ready to go for a couple of laps around the block. In the lobby area we were able to see many of the different types of cars that Dallara has made parts for and a general history of the company. The front area also had a autograph table with Indycar drivers Pipa Mann, Graham Rahal and Ed Carpenter giving autographs and having their pictures taken with attendees. The day's event was for several charities that the drivers support, Graham Rahal Foundation, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, and Serious Fun founded by Paul Newman. The factory also has driver simulators that were being enjoyed by many. The Club Members that attended had a lot of fun and are making plans for a return trip later in the year when better Corvette weather and a greater number of club members can attend.
