Rick's Boathouse - First Time of the Season
On Sunday April 14, Bill and Erika hosted a Drive N Dine to Rick's on what turned out to be a beautiful Sunday with temperatures reaching the low 70's. With the warm and dry predicted weather 13 Corvettes turned up at the starting point for the drive, which was one of the larger groups to go on a Drive N Dine. Those going on the day' outing were Bill & Erika L, Greg & Donna B,
Susie H w/ Terry S, John & Marge H, Jim & Shelley N, Dick & Bonnie P, Rich & Machelle P, Dean & Zoe D,
Mark & Donna S, Darrell & Beth H,
Sarah Lee R,
Greg T, and Mike & Linda T.
Once we got to Rick's Rich & Suzanne B and Doug & Arminta I met us there for lunch.
The trip started out working through some of the Carmel roundabouts to lo0sen everyone up. After doing a few leader Bill heard that Greg T & Greg B had pulled off, through the use of more roundabouts the group was able to easily circle back and find out what happened. It turns out that Greg T
had picked up a nail in his left rear tire, which was making a racket but he was not losing air pressure. He decided to drive with us for a ways, but as the noise increased (could be heard over the 2 way radios) he then dropped out and took a direct route to Rick's to met us there and reduce the damage to his run flat tire. Note the next day pictures from the meeting of Greg's tire noise - it was a metal rod long enough to reach the inside of the rim. The run flat never fully lost pressure and the tire has been repaired and holding air just fine, but he is planning on replacing with Michelin tires soon.
The trip then continued on to 146th street and across to the Zionsville area. Just to take a different route we continued along through the speed trap Whitestown and on over to SR267. This was not a bad route, but did start to get congested as we went through downtown Brownsburg. Faithfully following the GPS and with added suggestions from Donna S we then got on to 136 and then Dandy Trail and to our destination before our 3 pm reservation.
After a great lunch was had about half of the group followed Greg on a reverse route of his usual to Rick's which headed us back to Zionsville on many scenic roads. Of course getting near the Zionsville DQ called for a stop to be made by half of that group for a quick ice cream break and more socializing.
As the day wound in to evening it got even warmer and we can only hope that winter has finally been chased away.
