Carmel July 4th Parade

On July 4th the club members woke to damp streets but even so 18 Corvettes made their way to the 116th street initial staging area to be greeted by Bob Young with his portable breakfast bar with coffee and donuts for all. He was assisted by helper Ross Gullett who had come out to see the group off. Once we were there, including host Gregg Ernest who ALMOST joined the battery club again as his Corvette would not initially start. He went home and got it, after a quick charge before we moved to our parade staging spot, so was saved getting the dead battery award two years in a row. From the pictures the streets look a lot wetter than they really were and none of the Corvettes had gotten too dirty on the way there. Typical club member cleaning was of course done though so that they all were shinny for the parade. Those members in the parade were Rich Bellville & Rex, Greg & Donna Bowron, Gary & Marion Cole, Jerry & Elaine Croy, Pete & Janna Davis, Jimmie & Donna Driscoll, Gregg Ernest, Rick Harding & his grandson, John & Marg Herder, Steve Head & Mary McConnell, Ray & Nikki Hieston with their two Corvettes and two daughters, Bill & Erika Lapham, Gary & Susan Melton, Barry Rector, Steve Shepard, Mike & Glenda Smith, and Charlie Sherman with 3 grand children riding along. As in the past few years Gregg's daughter and son in law led our group with the Corvette Indy banner, followed closely by Charlie with his tongue hanging out trying to keep up with the fast paced parade. After traversing the parade route about half of the group headed to Scotty's Brewhouse for an afternoon lunch. What would a Corvette Indy outing be without food? Normally after the luncheon a number of the club members would head to the Westfield Rocks the 4th Headliners Car Show. With the threatening weather there was no one planning to go this year. A drive by the new location of the Westfield Grand Park a bit later looked like the early car count was low so unfortunately not many others were going to attend either.
