Fishers Parade - June 26, 2011
A number of the club made a great showing at our first official parade of the season.
On Sunday, June 26th several members of Corvette Indy and CCCC met at Target near 116th Street and I-69 and then caravan over to join the Fishers Freedom Festival Parade. The day started gloomy and wet but it didn’t scare 15 beautiful Vettes away from trying the parade route. Those that attended were: Rich & Suzanne (with Rich in the ’84 and Suzanne in the ’06 ‘vert with her sister Linda as co-pilot), Greg & Donna (with Greg in his ’01 red ‘vert and Donna making a rare appearance in her ’00 Coupe), Craig & Gayle, Dan & Kathleen (with Hayden as “Spiderman” providing security), Mike & Terri (with Spencer as Chief Mechanic), John & Marg, Jim & Pam (Jim in his red C5 ‘vert and Pam in her silver C3 ‘vert), Lynn, Robert, Randy & Sherry, Greg and Joe & Judy (Joe actually left the rusty Mustang at home and drove his Vette!)
The weather cooperated and the gloom bloomed into a very enjoyable day with sunny skies with some floaters powered by a cool steady breeze. The cars all ran well and Fishers once again showed us what their favorite leisure time activity is by providing a bountiful assortment of young uns to gape at the Corvettes as the rolled by. With cries of “Race Cars!”, “Mickey Hands!”, “Shrek, Donkey!!”, “Rev it Up!” and even a few “Nice Vette!” comments we rolled on. They even threw in an occasional “Go Irish!” to prove they could read license plates.
After completing the route most of us caravan down I-69 to the Sahm’s 96th Street restaurant for dinner. A number of the group made the side trip and 11 colorful Vettes graced the parking lot near Sahm’s. We solved Sahm’s recent change in policy to “no one under 21 allowed” by going outside to eat. All but one of us met the code and disappointingly we weren’t asked to prove it! Spiderman saved the day again as the weather was terrific and we escaped the tobacco fires that were glowing within. After some good food and some great company we called it a day and pushed our ponies hard as we headed out chariots for the barns with tops down to enjoy the warming rays before the day finally escaped us.
