Greg's Blue (non suede) Shoes

As a rabid Elvis fan Greg finally has a set of Blue Shoes, at least his Jetatream Blue C6 does, even it they aren't suede. This is his recounting of the transformation. He was motivated by Erika's newly painted calipers on her Vette and the occasional squeal of the stock brakes to paint his calipers blue and replace the brake pads on his 2010 with some Hawk ceramic pads which hopefully will end the brake squeal and also cause far less brake dust to accumulate on his chrome wheels. He got the blue caliper paint from Jegs for $16.99 delivered which is about $5 better than you can usually do at the local store. If you do this at home be sure to purchase a can or 2 of extra brake cleaner to be really sure the calipers are very clean before painting. Get you some fans set up for extra ventilation to blow some of the vapors away from your breathing zone. Since Greg was replacing the brake pads he first sanded both sides of the rotors with 120 grit and then cleaned them with brake cleaner in order to remove any previous brake pad materials. This will help seat the new brake pads. He also took the opportunity to detail his wheel wells by first cleaning everything and then wiping the black plastic with Mequiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer which gave it a like new look. The paint on the  calipers is not a perfect match for his Jetstream Blue Vette but $16.99 for paint vs. $399 for Jetstream Blue Caliper Covers was an easy place to start. When you replace brake pads be sure to coat the back side of the new pads with a anti-squeal material.
