Afternoon Drive to Bookers 09/10
During the meeting on Tuesday night Greg suggested to Bill that he do a Retirees & Hookey Players Drive N Dine with a route that would include a stop at Stuckey's Apple Farm. Bill took up the idea and announced at the meeting that there would be a drive on Thursday because it looked like the nicest day of the week, which it turned out to be. With short notice there were just 3 Corvettes going - Bill & Erika L, Greg & Donna B, and Tom & Nancy P on Wednesday night. But as the beautiful day came about Bill got emails and calls so that the group ended up at 7 Corvettes with Mike & Linda T, John & Judy G, Donna & Mark S being added along with Susie H calling to say the she and Terry S had both thought the other had done the RSVP, and then found they hadn't, so they were added too. The group of 3 Blue, 3 Red, and 1 Yellow Corvettes headed out for the trip to Kirklin. Even though they were going near Sheridan, they DID NOT take Mule Barn road. Instead they checked out the road closing on IN 32 at US 421 and headed North at the final barricade on a county road that finally took them to IN 38 and the quick way to Bookers. Since the bank was closed they were able to park all 7 Corvettes in that lot as on street parking was somewhat filled up. The meals were great and once done 4 of the group headed back down IN 38 and on to Stuckey's. The group then found that the Honey Crisp apple that Donna was looking for were only available by picking them in the Orchard. So off went 6 of the group to check the trees out. No actual tree climbing was needed, but getting into the middle of them was. Greg also got a gallon of cider to enjoy some on the way home. The day was beautiful and still warm before the ting of fall that will soon be upon the remaining drives this year.
