Chevy Night Before the Race
On May 24, the Saturday afternoon and evening before the race, Chevy sponsored a lap around the track and barbeque dinner before the evenings Jason Aldean. This event was attended by more than 250 Corvette and Camaro owners that were sponsored by the Central Indiana Chevrolet dealers and Chevrolet Racing as a Camaro is to pace the next day's race. Our group met at the Marsh lot behind the Longhorn Restaurant on 86th street just east of I465. With 30 signed up to caravan to the track Greg had arranged for a police escort at a cost of $25 per car. Boy was it the best money EVER spent by any club member. The route from the starting point included a busy I465, on to I65, then off at Lafayette Road and then right on to Georgetown. With 3 motorcycle policemen leapfrog blocking each intersection getting to Georgetown and then having us go down the center and even left lanes to have a very quick and safe trip to the track. We even picked up two Vettes that had gotten separated from their caravan and were stuck in traffic until we went by. Once at the track there was the usual long wait until being allowed on the track, but once on it -- every one GOT ON IT! Like the previous Sunday, many again saw hi 70's to low 90's with some in Madness even seeing triple digits for a fast first half of the lap! The lap ended with everyone parking on the road course and heading off to the Speedway grounds. Some headed to the normal pavilion, not getting the message that the dinner was in turn 3 where a large tent was setup near where the concert was to take place. Everyone finally got to the right spot and there still was plenty of seating for all. The meal was great with the new Camaro Z28 being talked about and other of the new Chevy line up coming out this year and next while everyone enjoyed their dinner. As always Corvette Indy would like to thank their sponsor Penske Chevrolet and Mike Quinn, Chevrolet District Sales Manager Indianapolis Metro District for inviting us to these memorable events. We also want to thank Greg B for the hours spent setting things up, especially since he and Donna were unable to attend as Merlin (their puppy) was having health problems. Another fun event for the Corvette Indy members. Thanks to Jim S & Bob Y for additional pictures including the concert.
