C7 Plant Tour Trip

on Wednesday Oct 16, Robert and Judie went to the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green Kentucky.  The plant tours had just started that week and they were eager to go and see the production.  The weather was all wet in Kentucky, but Landshark managed to make it through.  The assembly plant does not allow cameras, but their minds are full of awesome images.  The plant is currently running one production shift (6:12am - 2:42 pm), the paint department is running 2 shifts, and maintenance is running 3 shifts.  There are 900 employees on hand (700 hourly, 100 salary, and 100 contract).  The assembly line was running coupes and convertibles that day with an output of 137 cars total per day.  It takes 3.5 days to complete a car including the painting time.  The car spends 1.5 days on the actual line.  The LT1 engine is assembled in New York.  They are currently prepping an area in the plant to house the performance engine build program (does that mean a ZO6 is coming soon????).  Tours are $7.00 and well worth it to see the build of America's sports car.  After the tour, they went over to the National Corvette Museum to see the Stingrays waiting for museum delivery.  There were several lined up ready to go, including a nice Laguana blue coupe with gray interior and chrome wheels just like Robert wants.  It even had an Indiana license plate on it.  The owner was there taking delivery as Robert tried not to drool on it!
