Fall Color Road Tour
Sunday;
October 19, 2014 Springboro, Ohio Fall Color Tour
Corvette Indy members; Alan Carnahan and Jerry Croy met at the Shell Gas Station at Post and I-74 exit and drove to Cinci to pick up (member) Elaine Croy. We then drove to Restoration Station (Corvette) in Springboro, Ohio. This road tour is a scheduled annual event that is held on the third Sunday of October each year for the fall colors. This is a free road cruise; no registration or advance notice is required. You just have to show up and find a place to park. Link: http://www.restoration-station.com/road_tour.htm
The organizers handed out a printed detail of the driving instructions for the tour as we arrived. They ran out of instruction manuals at 235 cars; so the grand total could be closer to 250 cars. It is interesting that it had rained most of last week; but, Sunday, it was sunny and 60 degrees; a perfect day for putting the top down. Lunch was served at noon with a donation going to the group that organized a grilled meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, deserts and a drink. The driver’s meeting was at 1 PM and the group left for the road tour at 2 PM. We drove a 68 mile route through the back roads of southern Ohio. The local Police Department helped with the first three busy intersections to keep the group moving. It took 10 minutes for all the cars to exit. Caesar Creek Park Boat Ramp was the half way break point and a great spot for a break to stretch our legs, hit the restroom, walk around and check out all the cars, meet folks and/or switch cars/drivers/passengers. One guy we got to meet was Joe Thomas from Okemos, MI (near Lansing); who is a National Corvette Museum Board Member. Joe agreed to meet with my buddies and I after the cruise for dinner. After we finished the 3 hour cruise; we met back at the Restoration Station for a cookie snack with water/coke.
